The Braves were 8½ games out of first place in the National League East before this series. Now they’re 5½ out. Temper the excitement on the standings. At 84-63, they have only 15 games left, the Nationals (89-57) have 16. Simple math: Even if Washington goes only 8-8 the rest of the way, the Braves would need to go 13-2 just to tie them.
